Name that ship: Royal Caribbean trademarks possible ship names for new additions

According to recent reports, Royal Caribbean International has trademarked six potential ship names. They apparently filed trademark applications in early November 2012 for the names Anthem of the Seas, Passion of the Seas, Vantage of the Seas, Quantum of the Seas, Ovation of the Seas and Pulse of the Seas.

Does this mean they have 6 new ship builds planned for the near future? Maybe- but the line has yet to confirm anything in regard to the trademarks.

In February 2011, RCI announced that Meyer Werft would build its next generation of ships in an endeavor called “Project Sunshine.” There has not been much information released on the project, although it appears the first ship will be delivered in fall 2014 and a second in spring 2015. It’s likely that the ships will similar in tonnage to the line’s Freedom class (154,407 tons), but with a larger passenger capacity, around 4,100.

In December 2012, the company announced the third ship in its Oasis class would be built in France, with a delivery in mid-2016.

Then too, there’s some speculation that RCI will be overhauling their Destiny class ships, and form a new series of ships- The first in series, Carnival Destiny, will begin a $155-million makeover in February an will reappear as the Carnival Sunshine in April. Carnival Victory (2013) and Carnival Triumph (2014) are also scheduled for renovations, but the there’s no word yet on the extent of changes.

Looks like there’s the potential for lots of ship changes within the next couple of years- I can’t wait to see what happens!
